Visit to Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Research Centre

On Monday, 20th June 2016, the Help for Health Trustees visited the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Research Centre at the University of Hull campus.  The visit comprised of a conducted tour by Profession Steve Archibald, Dr Chris Cawthorne and Professor Nick Stafford, founder of the Daisy Appeal.

They showed the Trustees the state-of-the-art preclinical radiopharmaceutical facility that includes a mini-cyclotron that produces microlitre quantities of highly radioactive isotopes, such as18F, the Sedecal Super Argus PET-CT scanner and the Mediso Nano SPECT-CT Plus scanner.  The research with this new technology is putting Hull on the global stage.

The Daisy Appeal is currently seeking further funding for the major research project that will offer earlier diagnosis and specifically targeted treatments for cancer.  A new building to house the research scientists adjacent to clinicians at Castle Hill Hospital is going to be built in the next 18 months and will be known as the Molecular Imaging Centre.
