Improving the health and well-being
of people living in East Yorkshire
and Northern Lincolnshire
The Rotary District Disability Games have been held in Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire for over 20 years, allowing Disabled people to enjoy a day of competition in several sporting disciplines whilst thoroughly enjoying themselves. For the past 3 years the Games have been organised by the Humber and Maritime Group of Rotary Clubs and a venue established at Hymers College, Hull. Over 250 competitors ,aged 16 upwards, gather from as far away as Louth, Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Bridlington to participate in Swimming, Snooker, Table Tennis, Archery, Shooting, Darts, Boccia, Kurling and Weightlifting. There are no restrictions to the handicap of those participating. Transport to and from the Games is provided by the local Rotary Clubs, Rotarians give up their personal time to supervise the individual events and refreshments are provided free of charge to the competitors and their carers. The competitiors really enjoy themselves, gathering together, socialising, competing and above all - laughing. The day is a central point in the Rotary Calendar.
