Dance for Parkinson's

At their May 2017 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health approved a grant of £4,000 to Parkinson’s UK.  Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition that causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time.  There is currently no cure for Parkinson's but there are many different treatments available to help manage the condition.

The Help for Health grant is to help provide regular dance classes with live music, through the support and guidance of specifically qualified dance professionals.  This is a proven therapy and will help enrich the lives of people with Parkinson’s, their families, friends and carers in Hull and East Yorkshire.  Dance for Parkinson’s will take place in halls, studios and spaces with disabled access that have facilities for providing dance with live music.

It is further proposed to work with the dance company Balletboyz towards a shared performance outcome with fellow Parkinson’s sufferers in Kingston upon Thames.(linking the two UK Kingston's) Balletboyz are leaders in the field of dance being used as a therapeutic and creative medium for people with Parkinson's and associated similar conditions.
