Improving the health and well-being
of people living in East Yorkshire
and Northern Lincolnshire

At our December 2015 meeting, the trustees were pleased to approve a grant of £1,000 towards a research study investigating the effects of exercise and carbohydrate on fat metabolism and inflammation in people who have parents living with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM).

The study is being conducted in the Department of Sport Health and Exercise Science at the University of Hull in conjunction with the Hull York Medical School and the Diabetes Centre at Hull Royal Infirmary. Approximately 37,500 people in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire will be living with diabetes by 2030 with 90% of cases being Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The Department of Sport Health & Exercise Science has designed a pilot study with the support of the Hull & District Diabetes patient group. The Department of Sport Health & Exercise Science hope to complete the statistical analysis and have a scientific paper written and submitted to a peer reviewed journal by August 2016.
