As part of the Humber Half Marathon Loneliness Project in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Hull, HEY Smile Foundation and Hudgell solicitors the Trustees of Help for Health are pleased to announce that they have donated £18,990 to local charities.

Myaware Hull Support

Myaware Hull Support

At their July meeting, the Help for Health Trustees approved a grant of £1,069.44 to myaware who provide information, advice and support to those affected by all forms of myasthenia.  The grant is to provide members of the myaware Hull support group with funding for sessions from a trained counsellor and/or benefits advisor and newsletters that provide information on medicine matters, benefits changes, feedback, and news from the other support groups.

Purple House (Winner, the Preston Road Women’s Centre Ltd)

We are pleased to confirm that at their May 2017 meeting, the Help for Health Trustees approved a grant of up to £120,000 to Winner, the Preston Road Women’s Centre Ltd, also known as Purple House, that was established on Preston Road in 1999.  The grant, which is the final amount required to enable work to start, is to be used towards the cost of their new purpose built women’s centre, which will enable them to continue to deliver their services into the future.

Dance for Parkinson's

At their May 2017 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health approved a grant of £4,000 to Parkinson’s UK.  Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition that causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time.  There is currently no cure for Parkinson's but there are many different treatments available to help manage the condition.

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity: Mobility Assistance Programme

The Help for Health Trustees at their May 2017 meeting approved a grant of £5,000 to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.  The grant is specifically to help fund The Mobility Assistance Programme in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.  The fund covers vital items such as: - Essential fixtures and fittings, like grab rails and bed hoists, providing our veterans more stability in their daily routine.

Aim Higher

Aim Higher

Help for Health have approved a grant of £750 to Aim Higher, a new local charity, whose main objectives are to empower families facing autism, mental health and educational barriers. 

Aim Higher holds monthly parent support meetings and has recently had a request from some of the parents regarding safe restraints for their children.  Aggression and physical abuse is common from some autistic children and parents are usually the brunt of such outbursts.  The problem is, as parents get older and weaker, children become bigger and stronger.  Many parents have injuries from trying to restrain their child, in the attempt of keeping the child, themselves or siblings safe.

Our Trustees have identified loneliness as a major health issue and at their March 2017 meeting, they approved a grant of £14,625 plus VAT to fund a three-month pilot to tackle loneliness in the City of Kingston upon Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire.

Run With It: Primary School Healthy Eating Programme

A grant of £6,072 has been approved by the Trustees of Help for Health to assist the “Run With It” charity to deliver a ten week healthy eating programme to primary school children.  The programme will be delivered at the KCOM Stadium.

Andy’s at St Andrew’s Hospice

At their March 2017 meeting, the Help for Health Trustees approved a grant of £10,529 to provide a roundabout and play surface for Andy’s at the St. Andrews Hospice’s new development of three discrete play areas.

Living Paintings

Living Paintings

At their March 2017 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health awarded £6,000.00 to Living Paintings to be used towards the cost of providing Living Paintings “Touch to See” books.  This free library service will enable 158 blind and partially sighted people living in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire to use the service for the next 12 months.

Macular Society - New Macular Support Group in Snaith

Over 15,000 people in North and North East Lincolnshire, Hull and East Riding have macular disease, a devastating condition that causes people to lose their central vision, ultimately rendering them unable to read, drive or recognise faces. 

At their March 2017 meeting, the Help for Health trustees granted the Macular Society £4010.00 for the establishment of a new Macular Support Group in Snaith.

Motor Neurone Disease Association

At their March 2017 meeting, the Help for Health Trustees granted £5,000 to help the Motor Neurone Disease Association ensure that that people in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire with Motor Neurone Disease have access to equipment to improve quality of life, as well as improve emotional well-being.  This is organised through the Equipment Loan and Support Grant Service.

Douglas Bader Foundation - Bader Braves

We are pleased to confirm that the Trustees of Help for Health have granted £3,100 to the Douglas Bader Foundation to enable on one of the Bader Braves Young Aviator Days to be held on 2nd June 2017 at Hull Aero Club, Leven.  Approximately 25 children from East Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire will benefit from this memorable and thrilling experience.

Over The Wall

Over The Wall

At their March 2017 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health made a grant of £5,400 to the Over the Wall charity, a UK children’s charity and a member of the international SeriousFun Children’s Network.  They provide free of charge Therapeutic Recreation camps to help children with life-limiting illnesses and reach beyond the perceived limitations of illness to rediscover a whole new world of possibilities.

105.3 Seaside FM

At our January 2017 meeting, the Help for Health Trustees made a grant of £2,000 to 105.3 Seaside FM’s Loneliness project.  The project is to deliver weekly ‘Tea ‘n Tech’ workshops/social activities over forty weeks at 2.5 hours per session to older members 55+ of the Withernsea & South Holderness community.

Lighthouse Project, Hull

At their January 2017 meeting the Trustees of Help for Health made a grant of £5,000.00 to the Lighthouse Project to help support the lives of women in prostitution and other vulnerable women who live in the Hessle Road area of Hull.  Hessle Road is an area of very high social and economic deprivation defined as being in the top 10% most deprived wards in England.

The Trustees of Help for Health are pleased to confirm that at their January 2017 meeting they granted £10,000 to Combat Stress, the UK's leading mental health charity for veterans, to provide free specialist clinical treatment and support to ex-servicemen and women in East Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

At our January 2017 meeting the Trustees of Help for Health granted The Sequal Trust a donation of £600.00 to help provide an iPad with communicational app, as an augmentative speech aid, for a young woman living in North East Lincolnshire who has neuromuscular disease with extremely poor speech.

Hornsea Nursery School is going to offer sessions for individuals who are suffering from a range of mental health issues including anxiety, low self-confidence and social isolation.  The Help for Health Trustees are pleased to be able to support this project with a grant of £5,311 from our Lazenby Trust.

At their November 2016 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health approved a grant of £10,000 towards the cost of co-ordinating support for people living in North Lincolnshire with intractable breathlessness.

This is the only UK wide charity which supports people at risk from severe allergic reactions.  At their November 2016 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health granted £603 to support the new Anaphylaxis Support Group that started in the city of Kingston upon Hull in spring 2016.

This is a parent-led charity that supports families across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire who care for a child with Down syndrome, and the healthcare and education professionals who work with them.  The Trustees of the Help for Health Charity are pleased to confirm that at their November 2016 meeting they awarded a grant of £5,000 to Downright Special.

PAUL For Brain Recovery

PAUL for Brain Recovery has provided the Help for Health trustees with a six-month update.  During the past six months PAUL for Brain Recovery has provided workshops/activities on inspiration and motivation, nutrition and fitness, education, coping strategies, support with recovery and support for families (peer support networks).  Therefore, the trustees are pleased to announce that we have approved the second grant payment of £2,500 to continue this work.

Lincoln & Lindsey Blind Society – A Friend in Sight Project

At their September 2016 meeting, the Trustees of Help for Health approved a grant of £2,000 for the individually tailored befriending service ‘A Friend in Sight’ that specifically helps those who suffer from severe visual impairment or blindness and the consequential social isolation, which has a proven negative impact on mental and physical health.

The Trustees of Help for Health at their September 2016 meeting approved a grant of £1,710 to fund Environmental & Management Solutions’ course healthy cooking on a budget.  They will be providing eight x two hour structured sessions, to residents in East Hull at a range of community venues, on how to eat healthily while on a restricted budget.

At their July 2016 meeting, the Help for Health Trustees approved a grant of £3,256 towards replacement kitchens for visually impaired tenants at Beech Holme Court, Hull.  This is a supported housing complex of twenty-two flats, which provide individual homes for active, visually impaired people who live independently.

Penny Brohn UK Living Well Services in Hull and East Riding

Help for Health have awarded a grant of £5,000 to Penny Brohn UK for their Living Well Services in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire  to help provide a programme of support for local people living with cancer.  These services are available free of charge to anyone with a cancer diagnosis and their supporters.  All of the services are designed to help support people’s physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual health.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Help for Health is pleased to announce it has awarded a grant of £12,000 towards the cost of running the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service. Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides its rapid response emergency service every day of the year and relies entirely on the support of local people, businesses and organisations to keep its two helicopters flying.

The Mobility Trust is an organisation who concentrates on providing powered wheelchairs and scooters for severely disabled children and adults who cannot obtain them through statutory sources or purchase such equipment themselves.

5 Senses

The 5 Senses Expressive Arts and Education Centre for Vulnerable Adults caters for students who have a mild or severe learning disability, autism spectrum disorder, profound physical disabilities and people who need help managing their challenging or self-injurious behaviour.

The Mires Beck Nursery is a facility for people with complex and profound disabilities. It currently has a capacity of seven service users each day and is fully used by nineteen different service users each week.

At our December 2015 meeting, the trustees of Help for Health approved funding of £8,000 to Crisis Pregnancy Centre, Hull. The Crisis Pregnancy Centre offers free and confidential counselling and support to women/men facing a miscarriage/stillbirth/ectopic pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, neonatal death or have fertility/childlessness issues.

This is a six-month update from The Teenage Cancer Trust Youth Support Programme following the Help for Health donation of £10,000 in July 2015. The Teenage Cancer Trust Youth Support Programme at Castle Hill unit in Hull provides emotional, psychological and social support to young people with cancer throughout East Yorkshire.
