Improving the health and well-being
of people living in East Yorkshire
and Northern Lincolnshire
In September 2016 Help for Health approved a grant of £5,000 to CLIC Sargent. This is to ensure they can make essential care grants to help young people with cancer and their families in East Riding of Yorkshire, Kingston upon Hull, and North East Lincolnshire.
CLIC process nearly all grant applications within five days, which is especially important for families, as entitlements such as statutory benefits can take months to secure. Grants are organised through the family’s CLIC Sargent Social Worker. Every family is eligible for a one-off grant of £170 from CLIC Sargent to help with the immediate costs such as last minute travel and accommodation. These grants are not means tested, so they can get money to families as soon as they need it. Furthermore, CLIC Social Workers help those with the greatest need to access further financial support by working with and signposting to likeminded organisations. By supporting with the additional and excessive costs caused by cancer treatment, CLIC ensure families can focus on their child’s health and recovery without the worries and fear of financial debt weighing on them.
